‘Wisdom to heal – the listening hands of a Cranial Osteopath celebrating Osteopathy in Obstetrics and Paediatrics’

The fundamental basis of Osteopathy is the gentle listening hands of the Osteopath. Osteopaths are trained in the ability to perceive subtle motion of the body through their hands. These skills are called palpation skills. It is these skills which make Osteopathy unique.

Carolyn McGregor is a Registered Osteopath and Registered Homoeopath celebrating her 25th year in full time Osteopathic practice. She provides Osteopathy, Cranial Osteopathy and Homoeopathy for all the family.

Carolyn began her training at the British School of Osteopathy in 1988. The course was five years full time and involved studies in human anatomy and dissection, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, psychology and included detailed study of gynaecology and obstetrics.

On graduation, Carolyn went into full time practice, specialising in Obstetric and Paediatric practice and joined The Osteopathic Centre for Children, London (OCC) in 1993. The OCC is an Osteopathic centre specialising in the care of the new-born and older child; and especially for children with specific or global developmental delay.  Here, Carolyn gained tremendous experience in caring for general everyday conditions of the new-born infant such as latching, suckling and other feeding problems, colic, sleeplessness; along with treating the acutely sick child, the premature infant and the dying child.

Specialist in the provision of Osteopathy for peri-conceptual care, pregnancy and birth; Carolyn is one of few Osteopaths who attends throughout pregnancy and birth as a doula; and provides breast feeding support and Cranial Osteopathy for the new-born and older child.

Carolyn graduated with a Licentiate in Homoeopathy from the South Downs School of Homeopathy, Chichester in 2006. Often combining Osteopathy and Homoeopathy,

Carolyn McGregor graduated from the British School of Osteopathy, London in 1993, with a specialist interest in Dance Medicine and Sports Injury; her dissertation and clinical study of the prevalence of injuries of classically trained ballet dancers with comparison to those from contemporary dance styles.

Working with several London based dance companies, whilst in practice in London and Hereford taught Carolyn about working with athletes, for injury prevention and recovery, and she has been Osteopath to a wide variety of athletes including fell and ultra-runners; capped internationals from the world of Welsh rugby; cyclists, swimmers, climbers and mountaineers.

With a passion for the outdoors, Carolyn developed a love of hill walking, climbing and mountaineering, and took her navigation skills to the sea with a developing interest in sea kayaking, to undertake solo journeys along Norway’s coastline, and Scotland’s Northern isles and Hebrides.

Such adventures brought her to Cornwall’s largest fishing port of Newlyn, with an eclectic mix of contemporary artists and traditional home of the Newlyn School of Painters; and where Carolyn made her home in 2009. Carolyn divides her time between the oak woods of the Sussex countryside and her Petersfield practice; and West Cornwall’s Atlantic coast for sea swimming, Cornish Pilot Gig rowing and barefoot running.

A love of cooking, travel and nature continues to inspire her solo journeys with ‘vol biv’, the French term for self-supported solo travelling often on foot and by kayak, with wild camps in isolated beautiful landscapes.
